Stay in shape: a daily marketing & ad workout

A daily marketing & ad workout

Want to stay in good shape? Have a daily workout plan. Eat well, exercise and keep up your emotional wellbeing.

Want to stay in marketing shape? Commit to a daily marketing workout.

It takes a plan and commitment, and the rewards are significant.

Successful marketers and agency execs share a number of characteristics:

  • They know what they know AND what they don’t know.
  • They stay current with their industry and with marketing knowledge and expertise.
  • They are in-touch with their target audiences and how those audiences spend their time

How do these successful marketers remain current? How do they enhance their expertise daily?

They have a daily marketing workout.

Interested in your own daily marketing workout? Try the following…

Morning Warm Up: 15 Minutes

As you start your day, quickly set the stage with a scan of what is happening in the world around you.
– Skim notifications/content from experts you follow on LinkedIn
– Scan the general, business and industry news for important items
– Read the headlines on your newsletters and only dive into critical stories

A 15 minute morning warm up will keep you informed and activate your brain for the day ahead.

The Meetings “Circuit”: Be Present

In today’s business workplace, much of our work is in meetings. Now that you’re warmed up, make the most of each meeting:
– Be on time
– Be present
– Listen and ask questions to understand
– Challenge yourself: How can I contribute more by speaking less?
– When you DO speak, be direct and respectful

High Intensity Work: Be Selective
When it comes to work you need to author or create, be very selective. Prioritize the fewest possible, most important items that you can handle with distinction. Delegate the rest.
A Healthy Schedule

Book yourself out for small patches of “you” time. Lunch. Time to reflect.

Protect that time.

Cool Down: 15 Minutes
The last item of the day should be to review your personal plan for tomorrow. That quick effort ensures you are ready the next morning to tackle the day appropriately.
After Hours: Active Recovery
You’ve wrapped up your day. During your leisure time, selectively consume media and content that your target audience consumes in a similar way that THEY consume that content. Spend at least a little time in their shoes.
